Children's Day is a special day and is celebrated across India to increase awareness of the rights, care and education of children. It is celebrated on 14 November every year as a tribute to India's First Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, Fondly known as Chacha Nehru among children, he advocated for children to have fulfilled education. On this day, many educational and motivational programs are held across India, by and for children.
History
The celebration of Children's Day in India dates back to 1956. Prior to the death of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, India celebrated Children's Day on 20 November (the date observed as Universal Children's Day by the United Nations). After the death of Jawaharlal Nehru, his birth anniversary was delivered to be celebrated as Children's Day in India. It was done so because he was very popular with the kids as Chacha Nehru, hence, a resolution was passed in the parliament to give a befitting farewell to Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India.
On November 2018, Google's doodle on Children's Day was designed to depict a child looking at a sky dotted with stars with a telescope. Crafted by a student from Mumbai, the design had won the 2018 ‘Doodle 4 Google’ competition in India for her fascination with space exploration.
In 2018, after Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, sixty BJP MPs have requested him to designate 26 December as the new Children's Day in India.
History of Children's Day
The day is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru, fondly called 'Chacha Nehru'. Jawaharlal Nehru was born this day in 1889. He was known for his love and affection for children and that is the reason why Children's Day is celebrated on his birthday. 'Chacha Nehru' regarded children as the 'future of the country'. He once said, "The children of today will make the India of tomorrow. The way we bring them up will determine the future of the country."
He always stressed upon the importance of education of children. He also played a major role in establishments of some of the most colleges and educational institutions in India.
Before his death in 1964, India celebrated Children's Day on November 20. It was after 1964, it was decided to celebrate November 14, birthday of Jawaharlal Nehru, to be celebrated as Children's Day or 'Bal Diwas' in India every year.

Why We celebrate Children's day on 14 Nov when UN observes it on 20 Nov Worldwide
Anyways on 20 November 1959, United Nations adopted the declaration of the rights of child under human rights. As a remembrance of this date, the UN decided to celebrate this day as children day. This update is date was also followed by India and we started celebrating Children day on 20 November every year.
Chacha Nehru died on 27 may 1964 due to sudden illness. It was demanded to make his birth day memorable one and since he was very popular among kids (hence called Chacha), It was decided that his birthday will be celebrated as children's day across India.
